It’s 2017. A brand new year. 2016 was quite a ride. A lot of great things happened, and a lot of really really REALLY crappy things happened. We lost a lot of great icons – David Bowie, Prince, Carrie Fisher, Alan Rickman to name 0.5%. Trump is president. A lot of bad things just seemed to happen. Non stop.
But a lot of good happened, too. Especially on a personal level, for me. And I want to keep that in mind as I enter into 2017. In terms of my job, I accomplished a lot. The company I work for is forging ahead, growing exponentially. The team I work with has, in a very bitter-sweet way, transformed completely.
And in terms of cons, I had an amazing time at Fanime, and made my first trip to Anime Expo. I didn’t end up taking any photos at AX2016 if only because I was only there for two days. I had no clue what to expect and didn’t want to miss out on too much taking photos, especially after standing in line for 5 hours to pick up my badge.
I took a lot of photos at Fanime 2016; even still I find myself sifting through the RAW shots and finding photos I missed. I photographed my first wedding. And I’ve learned a lot about myself as a photographer throughout the year – how I shoot, what I like about my work, and what I don’t. And as a result, I feel like I’ve gotten a bit better.
So this year, I’m looking forward to more of the same goodness. I will be at Fanime again, as usual. I will also be at Anime Expo 2017 – which I’m especially excited for since I’ll be attending ALL days as a “premier” (a.k.a I don’t want to wait in a line in the hot sun and get sunburnt so I’m willing to pay more for a ticket) fan. I’m curious to see how this year’s AX experience will be in contrast to last year with the pricier badge; hopefully it will have been worth the cost. Perhaps in a future blog, I’ll write about whether or not I felt it was worth the cost.
At any rate, this year, I want to take more photos. I don’t do much photography, but I’m at my happiest when I do. So, 2017, welcome. I’m looking forward to a bright and wonderful new year.
